What makes the Ironman Austria so extraordinary is the special connection between the spectators and the athletes – an interplay of excitement and a symbiosis of emotions. Around 3,000 athletes from 60 nations rise to the challenge. The start is at 6:40am in Klagenfurt in the approx. 22 degree warm Lake Wörthersee, where the athletes surge through the waves of the lake for 3.8 kilometres. Then the 180.2 km long cycle route leads through the picturesque mountain and lake landscape of Carinthia (1,680 m difference in altitude) before the marathon begins along the lakeside and through the town centre of Klagenfurt. The finish line is in the Ironman City in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee.
